Dates of significance

Background

Council has a commitment to connecting our proud community and celebrating the diversity of Hume. One of the ways we do this is by observing culturally, socially, environmentally and educationally significant dates.

Previously, we have observed these dates in a number of ways including a civic reception, event, city signage and social media. Some departments will also observe dates as part of their service programming – this consultation will not impact on this.

How to participate

We would like to understand which significant dates are important to you and you would like to see Council observe, if there are any dates that are on the list that shouldn't be there, and if any are missing from the list. This will help us develop a cohesive strategy across the whole of Council.

The final list of chosen dates will be chosen based on an assessment of:

  • Level of community impact
  • Aligns with reputation
  • Aligns with Council stance
  • Financial cost involved

Your responses will help us be become culturally responsive and achieve positive behavioural change.

You can take a look at the draft document and leave your comments and suggestions. Please do so by Sunday 3 October.
