Northern Regional Trails Strategy Update

Consultation has concluded

Walkers, cyclists and other trail enthusiasts, help us improve recreational trails across northern Melbourne.

Background

The Northern Regional Trails Strategy, a partnership between Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Moreland, Nillumbik and Whittlesea Councils, was adopted in 2016. Regional trails connect numerous municipalities and places of interest while providing wide ranging benefits to residents and visitors.

The Strategy has been used for planning and advocacy, which has helped the six councils obtain $11M in trails funding from the Victorian Government. Hume City Council obtained funding for the Merri Creek Trail extension (Merri Concourse to Premier Drive, Campbellfield), with construction expected to commence in 2022.

The Strategy is currently being reviewed and updated, to reflect the significant growth and change in northern Melbourne over the past five years. The strategy review is being prepared for the six councils by Fitzgerald Frisby Landscape Architecture.
