In 2021, walkers, cyclists and other trail enthusiasts, participated in a survey to help improve recreational trails across northern Melbourne. From the survey results and other research an updated draft Northern Trails Strategy has been released for comment.
Background
The Northern Regional Trails Strategy, a partnership between Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Moreland, Nillumbik and Whittlesea Councils was adopted in 2016. Regional trails connect numerous municipalities and places of interest while providing wide ranging benefits to residents and visitors.
The 2016 Strategy has been used for planning and advocacy, which has helped the six councils obtain $11M in trails funding from the Victorian Government.
During 2021/22 the Strategy has been reviewed and updated, to reflect the significant growth and change in northern Melbourne over the past five years. The strategy review was prepared for the six councils by Fitzgerald Frisby Landscape Architecture.
How to participate
Prior to the six councils adopting the updated Strategy later this year, we want to check in with our communities to see what you think of the top 10 priorities for the region and for each Council and understand what’s most important to you. If you want to give feedback you have until Monday 19 Septemberto:
