About Council in caretaker mode and community consultations

In the run up to local government elections being held on Saturday 24 October 2020 Council goes into caretaker mode. This means that community consultation and engagement will be limited in the lead-up to Caretaker, and in accordance with the Election Caretaker Period Policy 2020 will require approval of the Chief Executive Officer. From the 22 September to election day on the 24 October, under Council’s policy, no public consultations are able to be undertaken.

The policy provides a clear understanding and agreement on procedures for Councillors and all staff in relation to the caretaker period.

This ensures that elections are conducted in a manner that is ethical, fair and equitable and is publicly perceived as such as required by the Local Government Act 2020. During the Caretaker period this includes decision-making, use of council resources, public consultation, community events, and the provision of information and communications.
