What is an Active Living Plan

Hume City Council is developing an Active Living Plan to enhance the health and well-being of the Hume community through the promotion of physical activity and active lifestyles. It will guide how Council plans and spends money on sports, parks, recreation, and leisure activities and opportunities into the future.

Hume's population is growing. By 2046 it is forecast that an additional 133,501 residents will call Hume home. To keep up with this growth, we’re creating a 20-year plan to ensure everyone in our community can get active and stay active in a way that works for them.

What is active living and why is it important?

Being active isn't just about formal exercise, it's about building a strong, healthy, and thriving community and lifestyle. For some of us, active living is about going for a walk at our local park or swimming in the local pool, while for others it's about participating in formal active sports.

Our community is diverse, and the way we stay active is always evolving. So, it is important that we have a variety of accessible opportunities, facilities, and programs that everyone can enjoy in their own way.

Leading an active lifestyle offers many physical, mental and emotional benefits:

Help shape the future of Active Living in Hume

We want to know what helps the Hume community stay active. What makes it easier for you or your family to:

  • enjoy the outdoors
  • use our leisure/aquatic centres
  • go to sporting facilities
  • get involved in sports
  • or what gets you moving daily in informal ways.

Your ideas will guide how we improve all things related to active living and how we can create a city where everyone can get active in the way they want!

How to Participate

We've separated the different elements of active living out so that you can give specific feedback about what interests you. Take a look at the project(s) you would like to learn more about and have your say on Active Living in Hume by Sunday 25 May 2025.
