Background

Hume City Council is preparing a Master Plan for the Merlynston Creek Parklands.

Merlynston Creek is the main green open space for people living in Dallas and Broadmeadows. It connects parks including Laura Douglas Reserve, Hepburn Street Reserve (Dallas Tennis Hall), Seabrook Reserve, Will Will Rook Cemetery, and Jack Roper Reserve.

However, the Merlynston Creek Parklands lacks continuous connected trails, removal of most of the indigenous plants, and disrupted the water quality.

There’s a great opportunity to fill in gaps along the walking trail and upgrade the landscaping, play and picnic areas to make the creek more accessible to community and encourage more people to enjoy the outdoors in different ways.

A Master Plan is needed to set the long-term strategic vision for the creek and embed ecological, waterway, cultural, heritage, access and community recreational values. It will guide future Council investment and identify priority projects.

Merlynston Creek Parklands are located on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country and cultural connections will be supported.
