History of Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre

The Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre (SALC), located in Ligar Street, was built in 1966, starting with the outdoor pool. The centre has been upgraded over the years:

  • 1989 an indoor pool was built
  • 2006 a gym extension was added
  • 2018 a warm water pool was constructed
  • 2025 a new outdoor waterplay area will be completed.

The Sunbury community is growing rapidly with an additional 62,490 residents forecast to call Sunbury home by 2046 so planning is needed from now and into the future.

What is a Master Plan?

A Master Plan is a comprehensive, long-term strategic plan that outlines the vision, goals, and strategies for the development, improvement, and management of an aquatic facility or complex.

The plan serves as a blueprint for all aspects of the facility's operation, ensuring that it meets the needs of its users, remains sustainable, and evolves over time to meet future needs.

The SALC Master Plan will review the centre’s current facilities, programming and performance to understand the requirements to meet the future aquatic, fitness and leisure needs of the growing and diverse Sunbury community.

Who are Council reaching out to?

We are inviting everyone in the Sunbury and broader Hume community to have their say on The Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre Master Plan. Whether you’re a:

  • local Sunbury resident
  • member of the gym
  • participate in group fitness classes
  • participate in swim lessons
  • casual pool user
  • or interested in the development of the facility

your input will help shape the future of the Sunbury Aquatic and Leisure Centre.
