In late 2021 Council asked what people are currently doing to reduce the amount of waste they generate, how they try to avoid waste going into landfill and if there are other measures they are using. We spoke with over 21,000 households and heard from over 3,700 people. This input was used to develop the draft Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2022. It covers our plan to respond to increasing costs and levies, improving the services we provide, reducing waste sent to landfill, a plan for illegal dumping and a lot more.
We have also outlined our plan to respond to increasing costs caused by the Victorian Government's waste levy, which will see costs rise from $65.90 per tonne in 2019/20 to $125.90 per tonne in 2022/23.
